January 2016:

Carrbridge exchange is now enabled for Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC).

Three cabinets have been installed in the village (in the triangle across from The Old Bridge Garage; by the village car park on Main Road, and opposite Landmark car park on the Main Road).

Orders are now being accepted (January 2016) for some lines in the village. Check availability with your ISP.

Carrbridge to receive “Superfast Broadband” by end of 2015 and most likely to be Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) and perhaps Fibre To The Premises (FTTP)*.

The following information was provided by Mark Tate of Community Broadband Scotland and HIE’s Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband (DSSB) team.

The rollout of next generation (superfast) broadband is expected in the Carrbridge exchange area by the end of 2015. You can find out more about the DSSB rollout at www.digitalscotland.org and you can download a map of the planned deployment from this website.

The Carrbridge exchange is listed on the online Openreach Superfast Broadband "Where and When" checker as being in the category “exploring solutions”, this is because rollout is scheduled for 2015.

It is too early to say what technology will be deployed as this is subject to survey during next year, the vast majority of the roll out is though FTTC.

CBS has been established to help those communities least likely to benefit from the main fibre roll out and it looks like Carrbridge will be fortunate in that it does not fall in to that category.

Stuart Robertson (Digital Director, Highlands and Islands Enterprise) said:

“The information about Carrbridge is in the public domain so we’d be grateful if you would publicise it more widely. In the survey and planning phase BT will look at the modelled solution (usually a mix of FTTC through new PCP/DSLAM installation and FTTP) and consider whether this is the most effective approach. The exact number and location of new infrastructure will be finalised at that time.”

Info above as of 15 September 2014.

Update February 2015, now looks like FTTC and not FTTP due to BT costs. Still advised will be by end of 2015.
